"Illegals"

NOLA.com commenters are not pleased with the new designated area for day laborers in Gretna, not far from the Home Depot. There is much not to like here but I think that the worst is probably one user referring to the day laborers, who all the commenters assumes are undocumented immigrants, as "parasites who suck the blood out of the American economy," but I posted the first fifteen comments in their entirety so you can chose for yourself:

I know what would help keep day laborers from blocking traffic, check their green cards and DEPORT the ILLEGALS! That would clear things right up!

According to an inside source in city hall........Mayor Harris spend $ 6,873.00 in taxpayer's money for tents, port-o-lets, catering, signs, etc. for this project. The Congress of Day Laborers spents $ 0, ZERO, ZIP dollars.
But, the city has to raise water rates,don't fix streets, etc.
Way to go Ronnie !

Where is the designated area for crack dealers? They work hard too, and their presence on every streetcorner creates all sorts of problems. If we just had one place they could go hang out next to all the illegals Gretna is supporting with this initiative.

The majority of those who hang out in the Home Depot parking lot are illegals. If the taxpayers are going to foot the bill, require that ALL of those looking for work have proof of citizenship or papers stating that they are here legally. If they aren't have a paddy wagon on hand to arrest them. Enough of this B.S. of employers hiring illegals when so many citizens are out of work.

Yes, UMUSBCRAZY.......the key word here is "illegals". But, being a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT Mayor Harris does not care. As for Vincent Cox, well, he is just as dumb as usual. Vincent would feed a stray cat and wonder why he does not leave and why other cats keep showing up.

Yes lets blame a Liberal Democrat again......WAKE UP MORON. Bush had the very best chance of any President to seal the Mexican Border and DID NOTHING. After 9/11 Bush had sky high approval ratings and could easily have gotten the Money and Authority to build a fence. But instead he wanted to start a program of Legally allowing workers to come into the USA from Mexico and work and of course they would return home......NOT. Even the Republicans shot down that idea because they said that the people would not leave and not have to pay anyone or even try to sneak into the country, they could just walk across the bridge and fill out some paperwork.. Bush wanted to make sure that the companies that hire the Slave Labor of illegals and also donate a great deal to the Republicans would not get upset or inconvenienced.
Bush had the best chance to seal the border and DID NOTHING. So don't try going around and putting all the blame on Liberal Democrats because BOTH SIDES use the issue of illegals and BOTH SIDES will do nothing about it. The laws have been on the books to hold employers accountable, but the Republicans blocked the attempt to require employers to us E File to verify that their employees were legal.

Sure, lets take work from the americain construction workers and give it to the ILLEGALS who don't pay taxes, and why we are at it, lets pays for their anchor babies to have healthcare, foodstamps, and free school etc.
If you hire one of these contractors, you are just as guilty as the crooked contractor! I say we boycotte any buisness that hires these crooks!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad we are making these people welcome, even though they are not here legally and none of them carry any identification. Do any of you have any kids?
Question No. 1: How many of these people have criminal records from other countries that we know nothing about?
Question No.1A Gets Better: How many of them are child molesters or sex offenders from their own country?
Do you think your family is safe?
Setting up a safe haven also means that we need to feed and clothe them, provide their kids with an education, as well as give them free medical care. Who made this decision? Who has the power to spend my tax money on people from outside the country?
This is why this country is in the state it is in; no common sense.
We would do better with janitors running our government, because at least they have common sense.

More and more crimes are being committed against American citizens by illegals. The horrible thing is that once the commit the crime, if given a chance, they flee back to Mexico, only to return using a different alias. I am so sick and tired of this bullcrap of paying for illegals to come here and have babies. I am so happy there are now Urgent Care clinics that don't accept medicaid. If you can't pay, you must go elsewhere. There are actually places working Americans can go where we don't have to sit in busy waiting rooms filled with parasites who suck the blood out of the American economy.

i notice that most of you attack the mayor and councilman og Gretna but do not mention anything about the illegal employers who hire the in question. You folks who are so quick to attack these people standing out there trying to get work need to go out there and address the real illegals the ones that hire them. You may not want to stop with these small time contractors because you will find out that there are many corporate level illegal employers also. And it is both Republicans and Democrats in DC who get campaign cotributions to not address the problem in the first place.

Can someone go video the people picking up the illegals? The illegals and the people hiring them are breakin the law.
Most of these business would be hurt financially if it became public knowlegde that they broke the law.
Why have any laws at all if the mayor gets to pick which ones to enforce? Let's all stop paying income and property tax and see how they mayor likes that. You work for us you bum!

Yes....employers should be held accountable too. Even labor employment agencies are required to check all documents for legality before they can place anyone. But, what can we expect? Even NOPD hired Spanish speaking advocates who can't question the legality of a person being in the U.S. I am blown away.........and sickened by what's become of our country.
